Finding Light in a Quiet January

Welcoming a quieter New Year

January always arrives a little differently.

After the warmth and togetherness of Christmas, everything feels quieter. The decorations come down, the days are shorter, and the world seems to pause for a moment before finding its rhythm again. I often feel that shift deeply. The house feels still. The light changes. And creativity moves at a slower pace.

For a long time, I used to resist January. I felt pressure to rush into plans, to feel motivated, to start strong. But over the years, I have learnt that this quieter space has something to offer if we let it.

This year, I have been leaning into that gentleness instead.

Finding light in familiar places

You, Me and the Dales was created during winter walks, when the colours are soft and the landscape feels open and honest. Blues melting into pinks. Pale light settling across the hills. Paths that feel worn in, familiar, and comforting.

There is something about walking side by side that feels grounding at this time of year. No big conversations needed. Just the steady rhythm of footsteps and the feeling of moving forward together.

That is what I wanted this drawing to hold.

Not a dramatic moment. Just a quiet one. A reminder that even in the stillness of winter, there is warmth to be found.

Brightening January in small ways

I know January can feel heavy for many of us. The days are long. The weather can keep us indoors. And getting out into the countryside is not always easy.

Sometimes, brightening January is not about doing more. It is about noticing what is already there.

A familiar view.
A path you have walked before.
A memory of time spent with someone you love.

Art can become part of that. Something calm to return to. A small window into a place that feels steady and reassuring.

Walking into the year ahead

You, Me and the Dales is, at its heart, about shared journeys. About the people we walk through life with. About trusting the path ahead, even when it bends and disappears from view.

As this new year unfolds, I am choosing to move gently. To create slowly. To let January be what it needs to be.

Quiet.
Hopeful.
And softly bright.

Love, Stacey x
